How to Get Your Content Discovered and Grow an Audience.
Tip #1: Don't Get Discouraged
Nowadays there are countless ways for people to make a living with the help of content creation.
The internet and social media platforms brought the opportunity for creators to earn by working on their passion and doing what they love.
While it is definitively possible to grow your business thanks to content creation, it is not a walk in the park.
Your content is not going to get viral in one day, so do not get discouraged if you don't see any immediate results. It takes time to grow a business with content creation, and you might come across the idea that this strategy is not worth it anymore as it was in the past.
You might hear people say "YouTube is too saturated " or "It is impossible to grow your Instagram following ".
The truth is that there are still a lot of opportunities for creators like you to get noticed through your content creation.
Surely as these platforms grow and more and more people join them, it is harder to grow in popularity compared to 10 years ago. But this just means that there are even more opportunities!
It happens many times that creators get discouraged when their first video or their first blog post does not immediately get the attention it deserves. It is important to be consistent and keep releasing content even though it seems as it is not bringing any results.
Tip #2: Become The Best In Your Niche
Being the best content creator in your niche does not mean that you need to have millions of followers.
It means that since day 1, you should try to generate the best, most valuable content for your audience.
Ask yourself: "Am I the definitive source of information in my niche?"
"Am I creating the most content around my topic?"
"Is my content the most valuable compared to the competition?"
If you can answer YES to all of these questions, chances are that you are already popular in your niche.
If you can't confidently answer the questions, don't give up just yet! Keep creating and eventually, you will get to that point.
We live in a time when the algorithms of our most used platforms, Google, YouTube etc.., are working to reward the most helpful and qualitative content.
However, you cannot expect to go viral after posting one YouTube video or writing one blog post, even if they are the most valuable out there.
Sticking with your content strategy is hugely underestimated, but it is critical to be consistent in order to grow your online business with organic marketing, which brings us to our next point.
Tip #3: Be Consistent
As we said, it is extremely important to produce qualitative, valuable content for your audience.
However, one or two pieces of great content do not guarantee success.
In order to get noticed with content creation, you need to keep producing at a regular pace .
Think about your biggest competitors. They are probably generating tons of content every week, if not every day.
How valuable is their content? Chances are that their blog posts or videos are generally very valuable.
If you produce content even more valuable, it is great, and it gives you a better chance to compete with them. But it is not enough.
You need to be consistent and start generating content on a regular basis.
Algorithms (such as Google) reward valuable content, but how can you let Google know that your content is in fact valuable? There is a lot we don't know about these algorithms, but one thing is for sure, it takes time.
Now, I know what you are thinking. Who's got the time to write multiple blog posts a week and create professional videos? I have a business to run!
Content creation is a full-time job, but there are a few ways to make the best out of your limited time.
Try repurposing content.
Focus on creating one great piece of content per week. Let's say you record a very valuable YouTube video. It might take you hours, or even a whole day.
But once it is done, you could split the video into smaller clips and post them on social media for weeks on end. You could create one or more blog posts from what you say in the video. You could write a newsletter for your audience, and so on.
When you are repurposing content, think about where your ideal audience hangs out, which platform do they like to visit. From this, adapt your content to that particular platform! This brings us to our next point:
Tip #4: Research Your Audience
If we take all the most popular influencers, YouTubers, bloggers or anyone that has made a living with content creation, they all have one thing in common.
They treat their content as a business.
Even though it may not seem like it, they have dedicated teams of people to help them with their content creation and who spend hours researching their niche, audience and topics.
To make sure that your content gets noticed, you need to know how to reach your audience.
The best way to do this? Research.
Try to find out everything you can about your ideal customer and layout a "customer persona". This will help you to create content that is a great fit for them and can help you to reach them.
Ask yourself these questions:
What is the goal of my content? Do you want to promote your business or simply inform?
What are people searching for to find similar content? Try to find the exact keywords people are using and insert them in your content
Is my content something people are searching for? Understand if there is a need and an audience for your type of content
Where is the best placement for my content? Find out which platforms are the best to reach your ideal audience
Once you understand all of this and you start creating valuable content consistently, with time you will see your audience growing with a domino effect.
It is especially critical to understand where your audience hangs out . Which platform do they visit the most?
If most of your audience prefers a particular platform, but you are focusing on creating content on another one, it will be almost impossible for them to find you and learn about your business.
Tip #5: Interact With Your Audience
A very common mistake content creators usually make is not interacting with their audience.
In other words, are you treating your audience like a community or just as a potential for a new sale?
We see a lot of creators "shouting" to their audience about their content, without actually "talking" to them. This can happen when you see your content creation mainly as a "chore" needed to attract new customers.
Instead, try to engage with your niche and interact with them, without necessarily expecting any immediate financial returns.
If your goal is to only generate new sales, it may be faster to try paid advertising instead, but if you are in this for the long haul - invest in your audience and they'll invest in you!

Conclusion
Growing your business with content creation is probably the best way to build an audience, interact with your community and increase your online traffic and sales.
However, it takes a lot of time and consistent effort to do so.
Consider content creation as a long-term investment, rather than a short-term marketing strategy. Instead of investing money to see small immediate results, you are investing time to see better future results.
The benefit of creating quality content is that it only takes a one-time effort to almost guarantee future results. Once you record a video or write a great blog post, it will be out there forever (unless you take it down). This means that with time, more and more people will see it and once you start getting traffic, it can only grow exponentially.
